Having a foundation in the core disciplines, students engage a variety of subject areas in the humanities, such as literature, history and geography, art and music.
Literature immerses the student in stories and language, from rhymes to fairy tales to myths. Simple stories train the mind to find deeper meaning in larger works of literature. History, along with its companion, geography, teaches us about ourselves in time and space, beginning with Ancient Greece and Rome and continuing through Ages, Renaissances, Reformations, Revolutions, and Wars. Yet, it is not about us alone; it is about us as faithful men and women who serve our neighbor as citizens.
Of the arts, music is emphasized because it is central to the Church’s worship life. We train children to sing the Church’s song and to assist in worship because singing, in particular, carries the Word of forgiveness and prayer.
