In this year’s literature curriculum we study classic works by Virgil, William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, C.S. Lewis, Robert Louis Stevenson, J.R.R. Tolkien, and others.
History for fifth and sixth graders this year revolves around the first part of American history from the explorers through the War for Independence. The seventh and eighth graders study English history and its influence on American law, government, and culture.
We use Saxon Math in the upper grades with two of our students studying Algebra in preparation for high school.
Shurley Grammar gives our students a solid foundation in English grammar, sentence structure and paragraph development.
Fifth and sixth grade science covers a variety of topics from mammals, light, geology, the ocean, energy, and weather. Seventh and eighth grade will spend their studies on physical science exclusively.
While all the upper grade students are part of the Academy Choir, we started the Brummitt-Taylor Music Listening Program. This program provides daily exposure to musical masterpieces for five years before repeating.
